DROPS

Sculptural art, 2024

"Drops" is a research-based art project investigating ecological and economical challenges in the woodworking industry, proposing to repurpose sawdust into a versatile and visually appealing bio-material, and transforming the perception of wood waste into a valuable resource.

This work is a conversation about the perception of waste. It is about breaking stereotypes; prolonging resources; turning unwanted into desirable.

During research, laboratory tests and experimentation, I found a solution that could repurpose sawdust into a sculptural biomaterial of clay-like qualities. The material can be repurposed and composted without harming the environment.

Along with other objects designed, "Drops" in particular was made for illustration purposes – to demonstrate capabilities and aesthetics of my new vision of sawdust – not as waste but as a valuable resource.

With this work I am raising awareness about the transformative potential of waste. I aim to inspire other artists and designers and shift the perception of sustainability from being a challenge to an opportunity.

After a year of research and development, I have successfully turned waste into a versatile and natural sawdust mixture without the need for expensive technology.

Thus, I turned waste into value.
